EXPERIENCE SHAPES PURPOSE

My Platform Comes From Life Experience — Not Political Talking Points

I believe some of the best public policy comes from people who have actually lived the problems government is trying to solve.

I didn’t develop my positions by sitting in a political strategy meeting and deciding which issues might poll well. I lived many of them.

For more than three decades, my experiences in business, property ownership, insurance, agriculture, aviation, homeschooling, ministry, and community advocacy have given me a firsthand view of how government decisions affect ordinary Floridians.

Those experiences didn’t just shape my opinions.

They shaped my purpose for running.

Insurance Taught Me Who Really Pays

My years of experience in the insurance industry gave me a firsthand look at one of the most powerful industries affecting Florida families.

Every year we hear about another insurance crisis.

Meanwhile, homeowners watch their premiums rise, businesses struggle with increasing costs, and families wonder whether they can continue to afford the homes they worked so hard to own.

Florida needs meaningful insurance reform that remembers who the system is ultimately supposed to serve:

the people paying the premiums.

Agriculture Taught Me the Value of the Land

My experience in agriculture and beekeeping gave me enormous respect for Florida’s farmers, ranchers, growers, beekeepers, and rural communities.

Agriculture isn’t simply another industry.

It is part of Florida’s heritage, economy, food supply, environment, and way of life.

We need to protect productive agricultural land and make sure the next generation still has the opportunity to farm it.

Aviation Taught Me About Opportunity

Aviation taught me the value of preparation, responsibility, technical knowledge, and good judgment.

It also reinforced my belief that a four-year university degree isn’t the only path to success.

Florida should place greater emphasis on vocational education, skilled trades, aviation, technical training, apprenticeships, and entrepreneurship.

Our young people need opportunities, not just degrees.

Homeschooling Taught Me About Parental Rights

My wife and I made the decision to homeschool our family.

That experience strengthened something I already believed:

Parents—not government—have the primary responsibility for raising their children.

Florida should protect parental rights, educational freedom, school choice, homeschooling, vocational education, and innovative alternatives to a one-size-fits-all education system.

Ministry Taught Me About Service

Serving as a pastor and helping build Hilltop Christian Fellowship strengthened my conviction that faith isn’t something that belongs only inside four walls on Sunday morning.

Faith calls us to serve.

It means helping people when they’re struggling. It means giving someone another chance. It means feeding people, mentoring people, praying with people, working beside people, and sometimes simply standing beside someone when everyone else has walked away.

It has also strengthened my commitment to protecting religious liberty.

Government should never become the judge of whether someone’s faith is sincere enough, important enough, or worthy enough to receive constitutional protection.

Life Taught Me Something About Government

After all these experiences, I’ve reached a fairly simple conclusion:

Bigger Isn’t Always Better.

Especially when it comes to government.

Government has important responsibilities. But government should never forget whom it works for.

They’re reasons I decided to run.

Life experience shaped my principles.

Those principles shaped my platform.

And now I’m asking for the opportunity to take that experience to Tallahassee and represent YOU in the Florida House.

We the People.

I don’t believe Tallahassee needs another professional politician who learned about these issues from briefing papers.

I believe Tallahassee needs people who have built businesses, raised families, paid insurance premiums, owned property, dealt with regulations, worked with their hands, served their communities, helped their neighbors, made mistakes, solved problems, and lived in the real world.

These aren’t issues I discovered because I decided to run for office.

FIGHTING FOR WE THE PEOPLE

I am a beekeeper and I’ve got thick skin.  I have taken the stings of the bees to put honey on your table.

I will take the stings of politics to put honesty in your government.

From “Save the bees” to “Save our country”, I got this.  Vote for me, vote for my team, vote America First.

More to come

Fighting Inflation and Putting Floridians First

Inflation is hitting Florida families hard. Every trip to the grocery store, every fill-up at the gas pump, and every monthly bill reminds us that our dollars simply don't go as far as they used to.

As Florida's minimum wage continues to rise toward $15 per hour, we must also make sure that the cost of living doesn't rise right along with it. Higher wages mean little if inflation and higher prices erase every gain.

Floridians deserve a government that protects their purchasing power—not one that quietly takes it away through inflation, excessive taxation, and unnecessary regulation.

Alaska shares a portion of its natural resource wealth directly with its citizens through the Permanent Fund Dividend. While Florida is different, the principle is worth considering: when a state is prosperous, its people should share in that prosperity. Instead of growing government, we should look for ways to return more money to the hardworking taxpayers who earned it.

Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature have already taken meaningful steps by returning surplus revenues through tax holidays, rebates, and other taxpayer relief initiatives. I support building on those successes whenever Florida's finances responsibly allow it.

I also believe Florida's property tax system deserves careful review. Homeowners need stronger protections, and important proposals—such as expanding Homestead protections and reducing the property tax burden—should be clearly explained to the public so voters can make informed decisions.

Our county Property Appraisers play an important role in this process. Their mission should be to fairly value property while protecting the rights of homeowners under Florida law—not simply maximizing tax collections.

As your State Representative, I will fight for lower taxes, responsible spending, stronger property rights, and policies that help Florida families keep more of what they earn.

Your Family's Education

Parents—not the government—should have the primary responsibility for raising and educating their children.

My wife and I have been blessed to homeschool our children for the past 18 years. During that time, we also founded The Palm Beach Learning Company, helping families pursue educational options that best fit their children's needs. That experience has given us a deep appreciation for parental involvement and educational freedom.

Whether a family chooses homeschooling, public school, charter school, private school, or another educational path, every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. I will always support policies that empower parents, expand educational choice, protect parental rights, and ensure our schools focus on academic excellence rather than political agendas.

Update: Our son has now entered the workforce, and we couldn't be prouder of the young man he has become. His journey is just one example of what is possible when parents are trusted to lead their children's education.

Integrity in Government

One of the biggest reasons I decided to run for public office is simple: I believe the people deserve a government they can trust.

When something doesn't seem right, citizens should never be told to stay quiet or simply "trust the process." Government works best when it is transparent, accountable, and open to public scrutiny. Asking questions isn't a threat to democracy—it's how democracy stays healthy.

Whether we're talking about the Legislature, the courts, local government, or code enforcement, every public official should be held to the highest standards of honesty, fairness, and integrity. No one should be above accountability, and every citizen should have a meaningful voice in correcting abuses of power.

I believe government exists to serve the people—not the other way around. As your State Representative, I will work to increase transparency, strengthen accountability, and ensure that government once again earns the public's trust.

If you're ready for principled leadership, constitutional government, and public officials who answer to the people, then join me.

Be the change. Vote Steve Byers.

Homeowners' Associations:
Putting Property Owners Back in Charge

One of the fastest-growing threats to property rights in Florida isn't coming from Washington—it's happening right in our own neighborhoods.

I have watched the steady rise in HOA abuse across our state. We've seen homeowners burdened by excessive fines, selective enforcement, abuse of power, costly litigation, allegations of fraud, and even cases where HOA disputes have escalated into criminal matters. That's not the American dream. That's government overreach at the neighborhood level.

HOAs have a legitimate purpose. They help protect property values and maintain community standards. But they were never intended to become unaccountable mini-governments with unlimited power over the people who fund them.

As Republicans, we believe government works best when it is limited, transparent, and accountable to the people. Those same principles should apply to homeowners' associations.

Florida needs stronger oversight, greater financial transparency, and real accountability for HOA boards and management companies. Homeowners deserve access to records, fair elections, due process, and meaningful protections against abuse.

I also believe it's time to begin a serious conversation about "Freedom Triggers." When an HOA repeatedly violates the rights of its members, ignores the law, or becomes abusive and unaccountable, homeowners should have a legal pathway to restore local control—or, in appropriate circumstances, declare their independence from a dysfunctional HOA.

After all, America itself was founded on the principle that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed. No homeowner should feel trapped under an organization that has abandoned the very purpose for which it was created.

I will stand with Florida homeowners, private property rights, and the legislators who are leading the fight for meaningful HOA reform. Together, we can restore balance, protect our freedoms, and ensure that HOAs once again serve the people—not rule over them.

We the People

I am not a career politician—and I don't want to become one.

I'm simply an American who believes that when something is wrong, good people have a responsibility to stand up and do something about it. When the warning signs are clear, we can't afford to look the other way. We must pay attention, get involved, and fight for the principles that made this country great.

Across America, ordinary citizens are stepping forward to challenge government overreach, corruption, and the influence of powerful special interests. I believe that's exactly how our constitutional republic is supposed to work. Our nation has always been strongest when everyday Americans choose to serve rather than sit on the sidelines.

My wife and I have homeschooled our children for nearly two decades. Along the way, we've spent countless hours studying American history, our Constitution, and the principles of self-government. We discovered that there is far more to our nation's remarkable story than many of us were taught in school.

That experience strengthened my conviction that every generation should understand the freedoms we've inherited, the sacrifices that secured them, and the responsibility each of us has to preserve them.

Education doesn't end with graduation. As citizens, we should never stop learning about the foundations of liberty, limited government, personal responsibility, and faith that have carried America this far.

I believe our best days are still ahead if we return to those timeless principles.

We the People is more than the opening of our Constitution—it's a reminder that government belongs to the people.

Let's preserve our freedoms. Let's restore constitutional government. Let's Make America Great Again. Vote Steve Byers.

Hot Issues

Insurance Reform

Insurance affects nearly every Florida family. Whether it's homeowners insurance, auto insurance, or business coverage, rising premiums are putting tremendous financial pressure on hardworking Floridians.

I have spent more than 21 years working in and around the insurance industry, and I've watched the system become increasingly difficult for consumers. Too often, everyday policyholders are left paying more while large insurance interests wield enormous influence over the legislative process.

Florida deserves an insurance market that is fair, competitive, transparent, and accountable. We need policies that encourage a healthy insurance industry while also protecting the people who faithfully pay their premiums and expect honest treatment when they need it most.

I will not be afraid to ask the hard questions or challenge powerful special interests when Florida families are being left behind. I believe our laws should serve the people—not just the largest corporations or the most influential lobbyists.

It's time to restore balance. We need an insurance system that rewards honesty, promotes competition, reduces unnecessary costs, and puts Florida policyholders first.

It's time for the pendulum to swing back toward the people. Vote Steve Byers.

HOA Reform: Protecting Homeowners and Property Rights

For too long, Florida homeowners have been forced to navigate a system that often seems to favor HOA boards, management companies, and specialized attorneys over the very people who own the homes.

Some HOA laws have been challenged in court, and many homeowners believe the balance of power has shifted too far away from individual property owners. I believe it's time to restore that balance.

As your State Representative, I will fight to ensure that Florida's laws are written in the best interests of the people—not special interests. Our laws should protect constitutional rights, private property, due process, transparency, and accountability.

Local governance has an important role, but no HOA should become so powerful that homeowners feel trapped, intimidated, or deprived of their rights. Communities should be governed with fairness, common sense, and respect for the people who pay the bills.

I will stand with homeowners seeking meaningful HOA reform, stronger oversight, financial transparency, fair elections, and real accountability. Every Floridian deserves the peace of mind that comes from knowing their home is protected—not threatened by the very organization that was created to serve the community.

If you're looking for a representative who will listen, fight for property rights, and stand up to special interests, I'm asking for your vote.

Let's restore balance. Let's protect homeowners. Vote Steve Byers.
